Description

If you ask any hunter they’ll tell they probably have filled more tags in the low-light hours than any other time. With that said, it would be wise to design a scope to excel in early-morning and late-evening light. With the Talos scope with Athlon Advanced multi-coated lenses for clarity and brightness in low light, you’ll be able to add precious minutes to every hunting day that you’ve worked hard for. These scopes, with their 4X magnification range, will give you great versatility whether you are hunting whitetails in the dense southern pine forest of Georgia or prairie dogs in on the wide open ranges of Wyoming.   With one-piece tube design, the Talos line includes an assortment of specialty scopes for big-game, varmint, MSR’s, 22 rimfire, slug, black powder and turkey hunting. This  Talos 6-24×50 Model has ATMR1 second focal plane illuminated reticle in it.  Please click the link for detailed reticle subtension…

Features

Illuminated Reticle The illuminated reticle provides greater visibility during dusk and dawn and other low ambient light environment.
Etched Glass Reticle Reticle etched on the glass that provides excellent backing support for complex reticle design and offers great durability and much higher shock resistance to recoil
Fully Multicoated Fully Multicoated optics effectively reduces reflected light and increases the transmission of light giving you a brighter image than normal single coated lenses
Aircraft Grade Aluminum Aircraft Grade Aluminum provide extra strength and durability to handle the toughest terrain and offers lifetime of use.
Heat Treated One Piece Tube Construction Heat treated one piece tube gives the scope extra strength over multi-piece tubes.  A one piece tube also is better at keeping moisture out thus keeping your scope fog proof for the life of the product
Waterproof Waterproof to protect the scope in the harshest weather conditions or if accidently submerged underwater
Fog proof Fog proof to allow you to immediately engage your target when you take your rifle to cold ambient temperature  from warm inside
Shockproof Robust mechanical system with special designs on both control and erector system that give you the ultimate recoil resistance to withstand 1000G recoil for 1000 times.
Nitrogen Purged Nitrogen purging dramatically reduces the moisture inside the tube and helps maintaining fogproof and waterproof.

I reordered the [Athlon 215013 Talos 6-24x50mm] and received a brand new version of the item. The items is very clear at near distances (10 yards) and far distances (500 yards) from 6X to 24X magnification. I have not used it at the range yet but I could not be more satisfied with a sub-$300 rifle scope out of the box. Considering that this is a sub-$200 rifle scope make the purchase even more pleasing. The side focus spacing between yardage markers is very desirable. The clarity, magnification, reticle, illumination and turrets are the best of all the sub-$300 I have seen or used. I have a Primary Arms 4-16X44mm I like but, the side focus spacing is too close, which makes focusing very difficult because a touch clockwise or counter-clockwise throws off the focus. I only wished that Athlon would provide of list of sunshades that are compatible with their riflescopes or what thread pattern and (OD) outside diameter is used in each of their products since they do not manufacture/provide sunshades.

    ***Previous Review***
The [Athlon 215013 Talos 6-24x50mm] I received from OpticsPlanet through Amazon that was used (although I ordered new), damaged & defective. The scope tube had scarring & deformation due to either smaller than 1″ rings or severe over tightening) so I can’t give you true review of what this product is brand new. I think it has really good clarity up to 22X – beyond that my view of this scope is very cloudy (both literally & figuratively). I hope the magnification issue I found is limited to this particular damaged scope but all is not lost. The “Reticle Subtension Validity” is at 18X when most ‘budget’ 2nd focal plane (SFP) scopes only have accurate reticles for ranging at maximum power. This is an excellent 6-22X50mm scope especially for the price. It is not good beyond 22X which I could live with because non of the other scopes give you the features, warranty and clarity in this price range.

The 6-22X clarity is at least as good as my Redfield Revenge 4-12X and my Bushnell 223 Dropzone 4.5-18X. It’s clearer than my [Primary Arms (SFP) Mil-dot, 4-16X44mm illuminated]. I love The Bushnell AR-Optics line & Primary Arms but Athlon Talos’ turrets are superior to both the [Bushnell AR-Optics Dropzones] and all rifle scope lines of Primary Arms (4-14X & 4-16X; 44mm) I have encountered by either visiting their Pearland, Tx location or using a friend’s scope.

Athlon Talos’ brightness illumination is done right because it doesn’t wash out the image on any of the settings. Max illumination is just right for daytime with several reduced settings for lower light conditions. It is threaded for a sunshade, unlike [Bushnell AR-Optics Dropzone], however, Athlon doesn’t manufacturer sunshades at this time leaving buyers to do the “trail & error” searches. Flip caps are also not provided with the scope nor made available for purchase by Athlon Optics (Talos micrometer OD measurements: 57mm objective; 44mm eye piece). It does come with bikini a cover. Primary Arms provides flip caps with purchase and make sunshades available for purchase. Bushnell does neither.

You have to remember that I’m reviewing the potential of this scope and not the bad experience I had in receiving damaged goods from the seller whom I have had good experiences before when ordering directly from them and not through their Amazon store. Brand new and properly working, this scope line could be the best scope under $300.00 (5-Stars) or it could fall apart after a few short trips to the range but once again, there’s a lifetime no questions asked warranty when failure through ‘normal’ use is encountered. The poor thing I received was abused through improper ring installation so I promptly returned for a full refund. I hope this helps.

For the price this is hard to beat. I’ve only had it a short time but love it to this point. I’ve never been a Vortex fan. I feel they are a big craze like the 6.5 guys so I went with this instead. Like I said price is unbeatable. Glass is amazing. It is very clear. Holds up to recoil on my 300WSM so far. Will update if that changes. I let many friends and family look through this scope, never hearing of Athlon, and they all thought this was a $400-600 scope. Love it though! Gonna get another one here soon.
