First off I'd like to start off by saying I am in no way affiliated with Athlon. This was a completely unbiased review of an Athlon Midas BTR 2.5-15x50 scope. I initially started looking for a mid power riflescope with a low bottom power for the use of predator hunting here in PA mainly at night. I have several other high end "big name" optics to compare to. When starting my search I looked through many "high end" optics and some even had a 56mm objective with the same 2.5 low end power but with a pretty high end price tag as well. I then ran into Athlon through a local dealer here in PA, REC Gunworks. When I went and initially looked through the Midas BTR, I was blown away by the clarity of the glass! The turrets were stiff and had a distinct and audible click which we were looking for. The weight was somewhat on the heavy side which can be expected from having heavier glass. The overall appearance was very nice and looked to be well built. The illuminated reticle was very nice and well lit, even on a sunny day. When inside under low light conditions, the reticle did not bleed over and was still very distinct, which is very important in our application. The edge to edge clarity was amazing as well. I then made my order for two of the same riflescopes for a 22-250 and my partners 204 Ruger, Tikka rifles.
After our scopes arrived and I finished mounting them up on our rifles using TPS rings, we headed to the range. To my amazement both rifles and scopes were sighted in at 100 with only using 3 rounds each. The tracking on both scopes was dead on and tracked very well. With all components doing their job, I was able to lay down a 5 shot group with both rifles under .5 MOA.
Over all, I am extremely pleased with the scopes as we hunted all season with the rifles, taking several predators. Not once did we have an issue with fogging or finding our reticle against a dark or snowy background. The light intake was astounding for having a 30mm tube. I have to give a hand to Athlon for producing such a fine optic at an affordable price for the average joe. Thanks again to REC Gunworks as well for great service! I'm now looking at further products from Athlon to extend my arsenal of optics.
