If you're in the F-Class or LR space wanting tight click values you know how hard it is finding anything worthwhile in 1/8 under $1K. In this price-point nobody beats this Athlon Argos BTR full stop. But listen, don't buy the Kia and then complain/compare it to a Bentley. This GEN3 is the best 1/8 you will find head-to-head comparison for the money. Some things to know going in. Not FFP and typical SFP found in 1/8. Non-locking turrets not meant for running and gunning bumping barricades. This is a 30mm tube not 34mm. The objective opening is properly sized at 56mm. But remember you're not paying for ED/HD/UHD glass here. So don't expect crystal resolution at the higher magnifications or lower light environments. It is what it is and feature priced accordingly well worthy of the trade-offs your wallet will appreciate. This being said, try running without the sunshade to allow max light into the tube if you like the higher mag settings. I own both of this 10-40X in GEN2 and GEN3 versions. The upgraded GEN3 is superior. The turrets have huge improvements: larger diameter, better click feedback, elev top row values, windage L&R etchings, removable mini-knurled throw lever stud. GEN3 includes low-cost basic flip caps and the sunshade alone is a huge value add-on. Something important for you guys who like running steep rails 25+ MOA or greater to understand. Be sure to remove the ZERO STOP RING MOUNTED INSIDE during zero setup. My GEN2 I ran flat on 0 MOA rail had no elevation dial issues on zeroing it. My GEN3 I mounted on my typical +30 MOA rail setup. At 100Y I ran out of negative room to overcome the rail elevation by +8 MOA. If you actually read your user manual Athlon states you're G2G using a +20 MOA rail. This tracks with exactly how I was +8 off using a more aggressive +30 MOA ramp. That math shakes out to a factory baked in -22 MOA buffer zone making sense why they recommend a +20 MOA rail max is OK. This will obviously fluctuate based upon your trajectories but if you're in F-Class you're already running flat pills and your 100-200-300Y zero POI is gonna be much higher than your POA. Just a heads up for those using either greater than +20 MOA rail systems or a custom action that has a fixed machined rail higher than +20 offset. That being said, since this glass was designed specifically for LR applications, in future I would like to see Athlon integrate some more negative clicks factored in to accomodate rails greater than +20 MOA. Not a deal breaker knowing all this going in. Overall this is a slam dunk option for the money so for now just make sure you keep your rail under +20 MOA. I also see this optic as an excellent option and no-brainer for you high velocity varminters with small moving targets well under 1,000Y who are good with wind wanting a precise dial setup for improved accuracy. You can easily setup 2-3 varminters for the price of one typical F-Class 1/8 optic. Hope this review gives you some valuable input and feedback and know that you can trust Athlon to back their gear. They have been hands down the best no-nonsense warranty backer and support team I've encountered in the optics business.
