Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50mm HD Riflescope: In-Depth Overview

BY: GAVIN

A good riflescope is paramount if you want to succeed at long-range shooting. A scope with great optical quality and the right features can really “enhance your game” whether it be long-range hunting, target shooting, or a competitive shooting like PRS match events. The last time I shot in a PRS event, I really wished for a couple things: an adjustable mechanical zero stop, and first focal plane. When I heard about the Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50mm scope, I thought “this could be JUST what I’ve been looking for”!

Here is a You Tube Video From Gavin

A Look Through the Tube

While these images don’t do the optical quality of this scope proper justice, they are helpful to see roughly what you’ll see when shooting with this scope.

100 Yards, 6x Power

100 Yards, 24x Power

600 Yards, 6x Power

600 Yards, 24x Power

1250 Yards, 6x Power

1250 Yards, 24x Power

What’s it like to look through this scope? It’s very clear- the HD quality glass is a huge improvement over lower-grade scopes, and you can definitely see fine details all the way to the 1250 yards I tested this rifle out to.

The zoom ring is also a big improvement over my other scopes- it has enough friction to stay put, but is MUCH smoother to operate compared to what I’m used to. I also like the fact that it has a small “lever” to assist with grip when changing power levels, and to give a reference for the current power level.

The side focus is also very smooth, and easy to see when “behind the rifle”. I also found the focus settings to be accurate for the ranges I was shooting and testing at. You can set your zero for both windage and elevation in under a minute, and the only tool you’ll need is a coin (or flat blade screwdriver). Setting the zero-stop is easy (as shown in the video) and requires only a 1/16″ allen key, which is included with the scope.

Summary

It is really easy to spend $1000-2000 on a scope with features that compare to the Athlon Optics Midas TAC 6-24x50mm riflescope. I personally feel that this scope is a great fit for applications like long-range hunting and PRS- and I plan to use this scope for both of those tasks! I’ll note that Athlon also offers the Midas TAC in a 4-16x44mm version, which is even more affordable compared with the model demonstrated in this post/video.
