This model is the MOA recticle review, great scope is made in China, but under great multi coated glass specifications. Illumination is bright daylight visible, but only under highest 2 settings, really glows and pops in lower light settings. The on off between brightness levels was a wonderful design. The previous complains of mushy knobs were not present as they were tight hard clicks. This setup was mounted on an Aero Precision Extended mount on a JP LRP-07 16″ .308 light contour and ran great from 50-100yrds laser precision, felt like shooting a bolt action. For closer under 25 yard and closer precision applications was not ideal, but not terrible with both eyes open “red dot” style use, there is an eye piece adjuster, the parallax is fixed, second focal plane recticle was clearly etched, but may get lost in shadows without illumination on and long range use, recommend a spotting partner and making a quick a doping card had to be made for specific different bullet weights and was good to go afterwards. Eye relief was listed at 3.8″ but mine was closer to 4 inches was a refreshing change over the industry standard for similar 1-4 and 1-6x at 2.5 to 3 inches eye pokers. Great for AR style setup, not the lightest optic, but not horrible if using a light mount like the Aero Precision. Covered caps were a plus to prevent additional movement during transportation or storage.
Very impressed at the $529 price point was far superior to the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x at $300, very similar quality to the Zeiss Conquest HD line, but Zeiss low light color quality and use was slightly better (post dusk/ pre dawn few minutes additional usage with Zeiss). This would compete with the Swarovski Z6i, with the Z6i with slightly better color accuracy, but edge to edge clarity was similar with little to no noticeable chromatic aberrations except extreme bright background with very dark shadow foreground was rare. Color is non-issue unless you plan on using this scope for photography use. Competitor would be the Vortex Viper 1-4x, but the additional reach would goto the Athlon.
The lifetime transferable warranty was a huge plus, will be keeping and using for amateur 3-gun applications and general 50-100yr outdoor range applications, works well the the Vortex flip up eye piece covers, held zero fine after fiddling with elevation and windage and returning to zero. For 200 yard plus, would go with something of higher magnification, but overall very pleased with the Athlon Optics Midas line.
